Sam Edelston plays the dulcimer.

The mountain dulcimer is a three or four string instrument that has its roots in the Appalachian Mountains.  The dulcimer can be heard in a lot of folk and old-time music.

Edelston likes to take it up a notch.  By running his dulcimer through some distortion pedals and a stack of Marshall amps, he gets something that's quite different.
