Chris Cornell Statue Coming to Seattle Museum of Pop Culture

A statue of Chris Cornell will be erected at the Seattle Museum of Pop Culture in August.

Associated Press reports that a bronze effigy of the iconic Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog frontman is being created by sculptor Nick Marra

TMZ obtained exclusive photos of the statue. In the piece, a long-haired Cornell is depicted singing, wearing boots, dog tags and a guitar.

Cornell's widow, Vicky Cornell, financed the statues, saying that it is her gift to "the tight-knit community that gave him his start." It will be unveiled August 29.

Chris died May 18, 2017, in Detroit in an apparent suicide in his hotel room after a Soundgarden concert.

Vicky says her husband long-struggles with depression and anxiety. She believes his suicide was the result of a combination of sedatives and too large a dose of a prescribed anxiety drug, though the Wayne County Medical Examiner did not list the drugs as contributing factors in Cornell's death.

Known in rock circles as "The Voice," for his incredible vocal range, Cornell is one of the most influential rock songwriters to come out of the grunge movement of the early '90s.

The statue in Seattle is one of many tributes to the rocker since his death last year.
