Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Josh Klinghoffer and Chad Smith Play RSD Gig: Watch

MusiCares Concert For Recovery (rehearsals)

On Saturday (April 13) audiophiles celebrated Record Store Day 2019, and while many flocked to their local record stores to buy special edition releases by the likes of Foo Fighters, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Greta Van Fleet and more, others went to watch some pretty spectacular in-store shows. Those who were lucky enough to snag a spot at Long Beach's Fingerprints got to watch Red Hot Chili Peppers' guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and drummer Chad Smith play a four-song set of T. Rex covers, accompanied by Jane's Addiction's Eric Avery and Mike McCready, whose band Pearl Jam joined a long list of notable artists to act as Record Store Day ambassadors.

The set was in honor of Klinghoffer and Smith's RSD 7-inch single of the English glam rockers' 1971 hits “Jeepster” and “Monolith,” and also included renditions of "Rip-Off" and "Life's a Gas." A fan was able to catch the whole set on camera. Watch footage below.

These aren't the only covers Klinghoffer has performed for a special audience as of late. Last month, he played a beautiful rendition of Radiohead's "Pyramid Song" during the Red Hot Chili Peppers' historic set at the great pyramids of Giza.
