The Cars legend Ric Ocasek passed away last month at 75.
As the music world continues to mourn, his longtime wife, model Paulina Porizkova, has opened up about his final moments.
Porizkova was the one who found Ocasek unconscious and unresponsive at his home after he passed away while on the mend from surgery. While they separated in 2017, the two remained close.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, she says the rocker had been doing “really well” after the “successful” surgery, so his passing was a big “shock”... as was finding him cold in bed one morning.
Her last moment with her estranged husband was bringing him some cookies, which he passed on to go to bed early since he was feeling “sore.” The next morning, she found Ocasek cold in his bed.
But she waited to call 911 right away. Why?
Because Ocasek’s manager suggested that the family get a chance to say goodbye before “chaos” ensued following news of his sudden death. It was a good thing, too, because “literally minutes’ after she did call 911, there were paparazzi at the house.
While Ocasek’s death was a tragedy, Porizkova says his surgery was a “blessing,” because it brought the family together one last time before his passing.
“We had two weeks of just the four of us watching our favorite TV shows and me cooking or ordering in and hanging out,” she recalls. “In this cloud of awfulness, that was a silver lining.”
