Queen drummer Roger Taylor is brushing off the negative reviews their hit biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” got across the pond ahead of its theatrical release. In his mind, the British media “hates” how “popular” the band has become.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” took home four Oscars and two Golden Globes along with its impressive $900-million worldwide gross. But before it hit theaters. Taylor says that there was an “expectation of disaster” in the United Kingdom, resulting in “sneering and superficial” reviews. “The trouble with us is, we’re too popular, and a lot of the media just hate that,” he explains.
But Taylor doesn’t care – Queen is taking critics’ words “all the way to the bank.” Plus, he thinks “word of mouth via social media” is “much more powerful” than a few written reviews.
