The “Cannonball Run” Is Real, And It Starts Soon

It was back in 1981, when Burt Reynolds and a whole bunch of other celebrities hit the big screen for no other reason to have a good time – and make a box office score – with “The Cannonball Run.” The plot was simple – get a diverse group of cars and drivers, and race across the country for glory and cash. But get this – that movie inspired a real thing…and it’s happening again very soon!

On October 26th, a few dozen exotic, classic, and super cars will line up to take part in The Cannonball Run Rally. This year’s run will launch in Las Vegas, and the route’s been chosen by a select group of planners, scouts, and drivers. Once on the road, they’ll hit some of the most challenging, scenic, and fun roads the West Coast has to offer – including stops in: Bakersfield, Pebble Beach, San Francisco, Napa Valley, Portland, and finishing off in Seattle on November 2nd…with a “Secret Stop” on Halloween.

Sounds cool, right? Well, it is. But if you want in, ya gotta pony up $25,000 for the privilege. But consider that emptying your pockets that deeply gets you the drive, stays in luxury hotels, gourmet meals, car detailing, and acting like a big shot on the road for a while. For that money, the organizers are also quick to point out that this isn’t a race, but merely a road trip and batch of high-end motorized eye-candy (that includes Lambos, Ferraris, McLarens, Paganis and more – so don’t pull up in a Prius). And one more thing: There’s a police escort every bit of the way.
