Mother Nature has a way of delivering a serious bitch-slap whenever she’s in the mood. Some communities are harder hit than others – but what never changes? The way PEOPLE come together to make things right. Take our Quad Cities, for example. Remember back in the Summer 1993? Floodwaters drilled the downtown...they said it was the "Flood of the Century," although, we've had several floods that were just as bad since. There WAS one good thing that came out of it…and it’s still happening today.
Back then, a number of local businesses were in danger of losing everything because of floodwaters. That included Front Street Brewery, which had only been open for eight months at the time. Locals worked around the clock sandbagging and pumping water in exchange for free beer.
Not only did Front Street create Raging River beer in honor of those who helped, but now, every time the river is above flood stage, Front Street is offering “buy one get one free pint” at both the restaurant and tap room. Think I'll head there tonight!
