INTERVIEW: Carmine Appice Tribute To Ronnie James Dio

Carmine Appice is one of rock’s most noteworthy and influential drummers. His work over the years with Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Ozzy, King Kobra, and Blue Murder, amongst others, is legendary.  He co-wrote two of Stewart’s biggest hits, the number-one-charting Do Ya Think I’m Sexy and Young Turks. Although, as you'll hear in the interview, "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" was NOT supposed to be disco-rock track. He’s also a good singer, having sung lead and background vocals on several albums and projects over the years. His playing has been a big influence on drummers like Aerosmith’s Joey Kramer, Queen’s Roger Taylor, Phil Collins, Deep Purple’s Ian Paice, the late Neil Peart of Rush and John Bonham.

Carmine, along with his brother, Vinny Appice, recorded a song back in 2011 called "Monsters & Heroes," in honor of the late Ronnie James Dio. Now, 10 years after his death, they've come together to record a "social distance" performance of the song. Learn more about the project in this week's Bonus Block...and enjoy the videos below...
